Depression and Anxiety

Depression and Anxiety

Depression and anxiety are mood disorders that can negatively impact the quality of one’s life. Depression can involve continual feelings of sadness, a loss of hope, diminished motivation, and difficulty concentrating on school, work, or daily activities. Anxiety can manifest as intense feelings of fear, panic, and worry and can be difficult for individuals to control on their own. If you are experiencing persistent symptoms of depression and/or anxiety, counseling and therapy can help you regain control of your life. Georgia Behavioral Services, located in Warner Robbins, GA, provides integrated therapy and compassionate counseling in an outpatient setting. Our highly qualified and experienced staff of mental health professionals and case managers includes:

  • Certified Peer Counselors
  • Therapist Services

Depression

Depression often results when an individual is having difficulty with relationships, work, or school, experiences a traumatic life change such as a job loss or divorce, or just feels a sense of hopelessness that cannot easily be explained. There are many types of depression, including major depressive disorder (clinical depression), depression due to medical conditions such as cancer or heart disease, prenatal and postpartum depression, seasonal affective disorder, or other diagnosed conditions such as bipolar disorder. Depression can affect children and adults and, left untreated, can lead to more serious symptoms such as self-harm and suicidality. The good news is that counseling with a compassionate therapist can help alleviate the symptoms of depression and help individuals find a renewed sense of optimism and hope.

Anxiety

Anxiety can manifest as feeling nervous, tense, or constantly worried, increased heart rate, rapid breathing, feeling out of control of one’s life, fear of impending danger, and difficulty concentrating. Anxiety disorders include phobias (fears) such as fear of going out in public (agoraphobia), panic disorder, anxiety due to health issues, or generalized anxiety disorder. Some children experience separation anxiety disorder or selective mutism (an inability to speak).
